My Picture

School opinion

1 Thing I learnt at school is the order of operations and how they work like you have parentheses first then exponents third is multiply and divide and lastly you have addition and subtraction. For example 2+9+6x9= 65 because 6x9 is first and if we add parentheses to 9+6 it would be 2+(9+6)x9= 137.

1 Thing I need to improve on is my reading on reading plus because the stories are really boring and I have trouble reading boring things.

1 Thing I enjoyed was learning the order of operations and I'm looking forward to learning more today.Image result for math

DHT Beach Day

W.A.L.T Write with detail.

On Tuesday the 12th of November we went to Otaki beach.
At the beach we met 3 life guards and then went and learnt CPR and about IRB's and first aid.

Then we did a beach clean up for 30 minutes then we went and did the weet bix challenge and the winner was Lee next we played chubby bunny and I won.(P.S stuff the marshmallows at the back of your mouth were your wisdom's pop up.)

Finally we played flags. Flags is a game where you lie down with your feet on a line and your heads on your arms. The caller says heads up , heads down, then GO. The runners then run to grab a flag or a stick will work and there is one less flag than players and each round take a flag away when so a player is eliminated each round till the final two have meet their fate.

We then went swimming and I played in the sand with some other kids and I dug a hole which filled with water and started making a sand castle which had pebbles and bits of shells and sand from my hole. Then I had to fill it in so no one would fall in it.
Then we went back to school and then went home.

My goal for next week in class is to get a 2 combos in reading plus.

Marlborough sounds

On my end of term 3 holidays I went to Marlborough sounds in the south island with my family and we went on the interislander ferry that left Wellington and stopped at Picton. We stayed in Havelock from Monday after noon to Thursday at 12 P.m.
There we went kayaking and swimming on the second day.
On the third day we went to Pelorus river and went for a walk.
On Thursday we packed up and left for home.         Image result for marlborough sounds <-- Marlborough sounds.

Maths Problem solving slideshow

After presenting our Group Math Problem solving slideshows and our own Reading Journal slideshows I learnt that: I needed to change the colour of the text cos it was hard to read.

1 thing that was good about my presentation was: How it was laid out.

1 thing I found hard about my presentation was: Making the numbers

1 thing I need to improve on is: Making the text easier to read

What I have learnt about Tupaia

I learnt these facts about Tupaia.
Tupaia was Polynesian star navigator and part of the HMS Endeavour's first voyage.

Tupaia came from a Polynesian island, Raiatea French Polynesia that James Cook stayed at then parted with Tupaia.

Tupaia was most known for his skills for navigation being by Lt. James Cook as navigational guide on the latter's famous first voyage of discovery in HM Bark Endeavour.

The reason Tupaia was in New Zealand was because of the voyage of the Endeavour.

what happened to Tupaia? Well first he got scurvy because of the lack of vitamin C and then he died of pneumonia and Dysentery.

I found that the sailors on the Endeavour tried to help Tupaia but he refused to take the scurvy pills and that James Cook named places that already had names.

Maths problem solving

Today 14th of the 8th of 2019 my maths group did a problem and presented our work to the class.
The problem said:

Tukutuku panels can be made from wooden rods (kaho) with cross stitches (tuinga), often using many colours.

The kaokao is a traditional tukutuku design that symbolises the strength of a warrior.

Imagine you continued this pattern until there were 8 kaho. How many tuinga would there be? My group found that the answer was 26 crosses or tuinga.

What if there were 18 kaho? The answer is 66.  What if there were 38 kaho? The answer is 146 we found that out by our strategy.

Find a way to calculate the number of tuinga needed for any number of kaho.

And if you look at the picture above you will see the t-chart that my group made and the towers of cross stitches and we start at 3 rods on the t-chart and 6 tuinga (crosses), we did that because there is 6 crosses on the 3 rods and then added 1 rod and 4 crosses as showed in the middle design and the smaller one by having 3 rods and 6 crosses then 4 rods and 10 crosses cos 6+4=10 then so forth +1 rod= +4 crosses.

I hope that you have found this helpful and I'm sorry if you've found it hard to read.

What I have learnt about Matariki

Hello fellow readers and in this blog post I'm telling you what I've learnt about Matariki.

Firstly I will tell you how to find Matariki. To do this it has to be the Maori new years from June to July. You want to find the southern cross which looks like an anchor at this time of the year then turn east to find the winter maiden the brightest star in the sky. Then go east again to find three stars in a row. After that track 3 other stars in a triangle shape by looking east again. Finally look around for a cluster of stars which is Matariki, you will know that this is Matariki cos you will be able to see seven of the brightest stars there which are the seven sisters.

The meaning of the stars. (The nine sisters.)
Matariki represents the gathering of people, family and the environment.
Pohutukawa is the star connected to those that have passed on.
Waiti is the star connected to fresh water and the food that lives in it.
Waita is the star connected to sea water and the food in it.
Ururangi is the star connected to the wind.
Tupuanuku is the star that represents the food growing in the Earth.
Tupuarangi represents the food growing in the trees and the birds.
Waipuna-a-rangi is connected to precipitation, water in the sky.
Hiwaiterangi is connected to wishing, dreams and hopes.

This is all I've learnt so far and I'll learn more over time and if you have any "NICE" comments I'll love to hear them.

Rockets.some what of a story and some info

On 14.6.19 We had a guy called Daniel from the Wonder Project who came and taught us about rockets and we made bottle rockets out of a 1.5L bottle and cardboard paper as fins. We were put in teams of 3.

Then a few weeks later we started making and launching our rockets to see how far they flew and then we recorded data and made changes to our rockets.

In my group we had what had to be the worst rocket cos the fins we falling off before it was launched. We had put about 350.ML of water in our bottle rocket and 60.Psi, and it would of flew better if it had all of its fins on it.My team could of been better and I could of been a better captain of my team.We also had fun and I liked it and I bet my team members did too.

Teachers Strike Day

On Wednesday the 29th of May all second and primary schools in New Zealand had a strike day for kids having better things at schools and teachers were having a strike day for it.

I know that it was because of something about the government and teachers not getting days of and enough time to live their own lives not their own work lives for about 24 hours & 7 days.

I also know that the government are Bums a they don't care about teachers lives and their work hours and teachers want less time doing work at home and more free time at home.

Science Road Show

On the 28 of march 2019 the Science Roadshow came to Ōtaki College and it was superb.
First there was one show then we were allowed to go and look at all of the displays that were set up and there was one that court my eye but I didn't get to go on it because the kid that was on it let his friend on it when I was clearly in front of, and then that kid took bloody long and I didn't get a go but my favourite had to be the second show out of everything at the science roadshow.
The reason the second show was my favourite because they got different chemicals and burn them and they gave out different colours for the different type of liquid or chemical they were and it was really cool and p.s the show was called the Chemistry show or Chemistry something.
They also had different minerals and they found out what the types of solid they were by just weighing them!

Maoriland film festival

Friday 22/3/2019

At Nga purapura is Maoriland film festival an event which happens in Otaki with a couple of cool films and it was awesome, I went there two years ago I think it was or last year I don't remember but it was cool to see peoples own films. There were five films I think it was my favourite was this one when this guy was making a film about the village that he lived in and I thought it was cool how he said things like how it was one of the four villages in Nunavik by the way the village that he lives in is Kuujjuaq in Nunavik Quebec Canada.

My second favourite was Heads up which was funny because this guy had bad luck, he was wearing sun glasses that looked new and a t shirt white as snow and white shoes. So what happens is he walks into a street lamp getting new black paint and the guy breaks his glasses and gets a black line on the left side of his shirt. Next a little girl is walking her dog and it takes a leak on his new shoes and then at the end he gets hit by a car cos he wants the coin he finds and it's on the road so he gets hit by a car.

Act Of Kindness

My act of kindness I would aim to achieve is helping classmates with something that they find difficult or confusing.
I'll achieve this by: respecting others so they can trust that I'll give them helpful information, working at high standards to find out what we're learning about or the work that we have been assigned to, and I'm willing to work with anyone in the class even if I get angry and annoyed at the person I'm working  with.
My act of kindness I'll aim to get rid of is swearing at people and threatening them.
I have to achieve this by controlling my anger and my rage.
I only get angry and raged at people who talk trash about me and my name which gets my emotions raged and I got all out swearing and threatening people.
I won't get stop my anger if people don't stop talking trash about who I am people will just have to stop and know that the more they make fun of me I just get angrier and angrier until I let my anger out on the person who is making fun of me.
